2009 JET Pre-Departure Seminar & Teaching English in Japan Seminar - Call for Volunteers

JETAABC is currently recruiting speakers/facilitators and other volunteers for the 2009 JET Pre-Departure Seminar and the Teaching English in Japan Seminar.

This is a great opportunity to give back to the JET program! You can relive your experience in Japan with other alumni and the new JETs. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated. Volunteers in attendance will have the opportunity to attend the annual JETAABC volunteer appreciation event. Please see details below (agenda attached in the bottom of the page):

2009 JET Pre-Departure Seminar

• Date: Saturday, June 27, 2009
• Location: BCIT Downtown Campus, 555 Seymour Street, Vancouver
• Volunteer Hours:
  • All day = 9:00 – 17:00
  • Morning = 9:00 – 12:30
  • Lunch = 12:00 – 14:00
  • Afternoon = 12:30 – 17:00
• Volunteer Duties:
  • Morning Presentations: Ice Breaker; From Now until Tokyo Orientation; Your First Month in Japan; Money and Taxes; Culture Shock
  • Afternoon: Living in Japan & Working in Japan Workshops*; Q&A Panel (*afternoon  workshop facilitators will need to attend a 2-hour training session at the YWCA from 6:30-8:30 pm, Monday June 1st, and prepare a case study)
• Other duties:
  • Registration (morning)
  • Food Coordination (lunch)
  • General help / set-up & cleanup (afternoon)
  • MC, AV setup (morning & afternoon)

2009 Teaching English in Japan Seminar

• Date: Sunday, June 28, 2009
• Location: YWCA of Vancouver, 535 Hornby Street, Vancouver
• Volunteer Hours: 14:15 to 15:30
• Volunteer Duties:
  • Four panel members required (One each of junior high school, senior high School and elementary schools) to make a 5 minute presentation about their teaching experience on the JET Programme and then answer questions from participants.
