SUMMARY:2023 Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl
DESCRIPTION:JETAABC is excited to invite high school students learning Japanese to participate in the Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl. The Japan Bowl® is a Japanese language and culture competition for high school students who are studying Japanese. The Japan-America Society of Washington DC organized and hosted the first Japan Bowl in 1992. The competition has since been expanding overseas and is now held in Poland\, England\, Italy\, Mexico\, Serbia\, Bulgaria\, France\, etc. The inaugural Canadian Japan Bowl was held in Vancouver in 2018. \n\nTeams comprise 2 to 3 members. During the competition\, questions are read out verbally in both English and Japanese. DESCRIPTION:Come join us at the upcoming presentation by Mr. Takuta Hikita. \n\nMr. Hikita is a former auctioneer of high-end fish at Tsukiji Market for over 10 years.  Combined with a Marine Sciences degree\, he became an expert in the luxury seafood market. When he first moved to Vancouver in 2018\, he realized that he couldn’t find the types of fish that his family loved to eat in Japan. DESCRIPTION:** Community event unaffiliated with JETAABC ** \nFrom the Vancouver Japanese Language School website: \n\nWhat is the JLPT? \nThe JLPT is a test for non-native speakers of Japanese which evaluates and certifies their Japanese-language proficiency. \nThe test is simultaneously conducted twice a year in Japan and various locations overseas. \nSince the JLPT began in 1984\, the cumulative number of examinees in Japan and overseas has reached 12\,720\,000 until the test in December 2020. \nCurrently\, it is the largest Japanese-language test in the world. \nAdvantages of the JLPT \nJLPT certification offers various advantages. In Japan\, the JLPT is taken into consideration for preferential immigration treatment as well as an eligibility for various national exams. Outside Japan\, it is widely used as school credits\, graduation certification\, job screening and promotion\, as well as for a variety of national qualifications. \nEligibility: Open to learners of Japanese as a foreign language. Not designated for native Japanese speakers. \nApplication: Online application: no photos are required with your application\, but you must bring at least one official photo ID (e.g. passport\, driver’s license). \nApplication Period: September 6 – September 30\, 2022 \nTest Guide: Test Guide \nTest Vouchers: Test vouchers will be sent out to all the applicants via email by Friday\, October 21.
