On August 9-11, 2024, JETAABC hosted the JET Alumni Association of Canada National Conference, with support from JETAA Canada, the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) / Japan Local Government Center (JLGC) New York, and the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver. JETAABC and JETAA Ottawa hosted an engaging hour with author, Clara Kumagai, on Saturday, April 13, 2024. This hour offered a peek behind the pages of her debut novel, “Catfish Rolling.”

Thank you to everyone who participated both virtually and in person at our fourth JETAA Bento Workshop: Onigiri Edition on Sunday, January 28th, 2024.

This was the first year that we hosted this event as a Hybrid event by offering in-person locations both in Canada and the US and remotely over Zoom. We had 15 participants in Vancouver, BC; 16 in Anchorage, AK; and 12 who attended virtually. All 43 of us gathered, eager to learn and make onigiris.

We are grateful to Hikita-san, Watabe-san, and all attendees who joined us this past Sunday, July 30th for Edomae in Summer. This series of educational events is co-hosted by JETAABC and the Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce.

We not only learned that thawing sashimi in the fridge is the worst method, but also took a deep dive into the world of kelp!

On May 27th, 2023, 7 JET alumni and 2 community members gathered at BCIT in downtown Vancouver to celebrate Asian Heritage Month. They enjoyed a sushi lunch and time to learn about Asian Canadian history, share stories and experiences, and enjoy some fun games and karaoke. This was a great opportunity to engage, connect, educate, and raise awareness in our community.
