On Saturday, May 13, 2023, in honour of May Asian Heritage Month, JETAABC Yomi-Kai invited emerging writer: Erica H Isomura. The hour begun with a reading of a poem that speaks to relationships with language, environment, history, and Erica’s yon-sei (fourth generation) 四世 Japanese / diasporic Cantonese identity. It is time for our Annual General Meeting and Shinnenkai. This year’s event will be held at Mount Pleasant Community Centre, Multipurpose Room 2, on 1 Kingsway in Vancouver (with the option to attend via Zoom), on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, 6:00 – 9:00pm. Here’s a look back at our Sunday, October 16th Imoni-Kai. This is our annual outdoor tradition where we cook and enjoy traditional taro root stew from Yamagata which is enjoyed all over the Tohoku region of Japan. We were grateful to have unseasonably sunny weather, delicious stew and snacks, acoustic music, and good company!
